Safety Coaching were engaged to help the business accelerate their safety journey towards zero harm, through challenging working practices, helping embed existing techniques and developing  personnel to think and act differently.
Below are examples of four key strategies implemented within the Surface Mines division:-

  • One to One engagement with Senior Management  -  driving the  safety strategy and local improvement plans,
  • Coaching and mentoring  with Health and Safety Advisers -  further embedding the company policy of safety being adopted as a line management responsibility, setting development objectives and measuring personal performance,
  • Risk based prioritisation of specific areas of improvement - development of new user friendly systems and delivering tailored communications to ensure all relevant personnel understand the way forward,
  • Realigned Surface Mining training strategy – acting as mentor for core personnel from the training and development team to deliver sector leading programmes and providing a longer term measurable return on investment .

During the 12 months working with the UK Coal Surface Mines division Safety Coaching has assisted UK Coal in reducing their LTIFR (Lost time injury frequency rate) by 50%.

’If you really want support in making a step-change improvement in your business’s safety performance, go to Safety Coaching. If, however, you are either doing it half-heartedly or only because somebody told you to do it or you just want to do ‘some safety paperwork’ you’d best go somewhere else. Of course Safety Coaching can provide advice on all the best-practice systems and processes but the real value will come from Safety Coaching challenging the commitment of you and your team to safety. If you can rise to the challenge, Safety Coaching will help you get to where you want to go.’’

Simon Taylor, Director of Surface Mining
